We consistently look to provide education, tips and tricks to our Business Blitz membership base, therefore we wanted to share our thoughts on… the future of SEO.  Consider this a protection plan :-) !

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the art and science of obtaining site traffic to business webpages on Google. Without a doubt, there is much misrepresentations to this craft on the Internet. Some so-called SEO guru is always coming up with the greatest and latest secret SEO program that you will pay dearly for, and in all actuality, they are doing nothing but taking your heard earned money, and leaving you helpless on the net.

It is also becoming readily apparent in the search engine optimization business, that the changes in Google, and the other major search engines are becoming more personalized searches. What this means that no longer obscure search terms like home based business will be effective. In all reality, if you are trying to place your information within that category, you will be sadly disappointed with the results that you see, even at the top spot there.

Its all about niche marketing these days on the net. Perhaps you understand what niche marketing is, but maybe not. Here is a definition of niche marketing.

A niche market is a focused tar getable portion (subset) of a market.

By definition, then, a business that focuses on a niche market is addressing a need for a product or service that is not being addressed by mainstream providers. A niche market may be thought of as a narrowly defined group of potential customers.

A distinct niche market usually evolves when a potential demand for a product or service is not met by any supply, or when a new demand arises due to changes in society, technology, or the general environment.

Niche market ventures may become profitable even though they are by nature small in comparison to the mainstream marketplace, or monopoly. due to the benefits of specialization and focus on small identifiable market segments; even without the benefit of economy of scale. Niche markets may be ignored or discounted by large businesses due to what they consider to be small potential; this in turn is part of the process that makes the niche market available to smaller businesses. The key to capitalizing on a niche market is to find or develop a market niche that has customers who are accessible, that is growing fast enough, and that is not owned by one established vendor already.

Having said that, it is important to realize that developing a strong niche marketing technique is the only way to begin the process of making sales on Google. You must understand fully, exactly what your specific niche is, and then begin to pursue that will all due fervor. Without this type of online marketing, you will eventually fail; however, if you do find that sweet spot that you are looking for, the sales will begin to be evident in your online business.

In this article we cover some of the worst SEO mistakes. Some of these will cause the search engines to ignore you; others will cause potential visitors to ignore you; still others may make your site disappear from the search engine results pages entirely.

We’ll go over each practice and explain why you shouldn’t do it. We’ll even tell you what you should be doing.
Flash If you’re making a new website and thinking of using Flash – stop. Though Adobe made Flash crawlable and shared technology with Google and Yahoo (leaving out Microsoft), Flash is still a bad choice.

If you don’t show much content to the search engines, you will have to invest more in links. Not only does a Flash site cost more to make, but you’ll need more money to optimize it. If there is no real reason to use Flash, don’t. If you want cool movies and features, consider embedding Flash videos and using cool CSS styles.

No Use of Title Tags

The most powerful HTML tag you have at your disposal ­- Put keywords you target the page for into the tag. This is the part that shows up in search results as a big blue link, so make it count.

Another mistake webmasters make is to put something like “Welcome To….” in the title tag. Aaron Wall calls this “Welcome to low rankings.”

Title Tag Duplication

Many designers create a site design without much regard for SEO, using one title tag for an entire website. Make sure to vary the title tags on your pages.

Messed up Robots.txt

It’s a good idea to have a file to keep your error log clean of robot.txt requests, but if you can mess up a lot if you use it incorrectly. Here’s how it looks, assuming you don’t want to block ANY pages:

Not Using Keywords in Internal Links and Navigation

Your internal onsite links have as much SEO weight as some outside links. If your home page has link authority, then links from your home page to internal pages pass pagerank in the same manner as outside sites pass pagerank to your home page.

By linking from your most powerful pages to internal pages with keyword-rich links, you’re doing exactly the same thing as getting

keyword-rich inbound links from high PR pages.

To make the most use of link power, make sure that your navigation consists of keyword-rich, targeted descriptions. Do the same with keywords scattered within content. Don’t worry about your footer; Google doesn’t put much weight on those.
